Bike Requirements
To race or practice with RPM Supermoto you'll need a dirt bike in good mechanical condition with the following modifications / features:
1) Wheels and Tires
Your dirt bike will need one of the following wheel / tire upgrades:
A) Stock dirt rims with Sportsman tires (DOT approved, non-knobby)
B) 17” supermoto rims with race slicks, grooved slicks or any non-knobby tires
2) Catch Cans
Catch Can installed to collect overflow fuel and fluids from draining onto the track surface.
Catch Cans may be factory-designed plastic reservoirs or as simple as a beer can with attached plastic tubing.
Ask one of our sponsors what will work best for your bike.
3) Lights & Gauges
All lights, gauges and turn signals must be removed or taped over.
4) Peg and Axle Sliders
Some circuits (Chilliwack) require bikes to have plastic peg and axle sliders installed to prevent damage to the track surface.
Factory and after market sliders are available from a number of manufacturers. Ask one of our sponsors what will work best for your bike.
5) Noise Restrictions
Races held at the Tradex and at Quesnel will have a noise limit of 99 dB's. Stock pipes and most aftermarket pipes wil be OK. However, we plan to do one race at Greg Moore Raceway in Chilliwack and they have very strick noise regulations. Most stock pipes on MX bikes will be too loud, however most stock pipes on Enduro models (Yamaha WR, Honda CRF-X, Suzuki RMX, etc.) will pass. Some bikes might pass with after market 'quiet' pipes like the FMF Q4. If none of these options are possible for you, a 'machine-gun' type muffler extension is possible. Also Db Dawgs are available if your bike needs to be just a little bit quieter. Ask one of our sponsors what will work best for your bike.
Recommendations
Brakes
It’s not required or necessary, but many supermoto racers prefer to run rotors and calipers larger than those found on a stock dirt bike.
Try racing with us first. If you decide to upgrade your brakes, talk to one of our sponsors for the best suitable system.
Hand and Lever Guards
In a crash, your levers are usually the first part of the bike to hit the ground. Replacing bent levers can get expensive very quickly. Most racers will tell you a good set of metal lever guards can be a smart investment.
Talk to our sponsors to find a pair of levers that best fits your bike.
Inspection
All bikes are required to pass technical inspection before they can enter the track for practice, qualifying or races.
Inspections will be performed each practice and race day by a certified race official.
Required Gear
RPM Supermoto allows racers to wear either race leathers or motocross gear.Whichever style you choose, your safety gear must meet the following requirements:
1) Helmet
Helmets must be SNELL 2005 certified.Helmets can be open face or closed visor (dirt or road race).
2) Boots
Boots must rise above the ankle and must not fasten using laces. Supermoto specific boots are not required (replaceable soles). Most styles of motocross or road race boots are acceptable.
3) Gloves
Heavy-duty leather racing gloves are best to protect your hands in a crash.
Motocross gloves are permitted, but road race gloves and armoured knuckles are an added level of safety.
4) Knee, Elbow and Spine Armour
Make sure your leather racing suit has knee, elbow and spine armour built in.
If you choose to wear motocross gear, be sure to wear knee pads, elbow pads, a back protector or an armoured vest.
RPM Membership & Race License
To race with RPM in 2010 you will need a RPM Annual Membership ($50) and a PNWMA Race Licence ($30).
Race Fees
All racers must pay Race Day Fees based on the number of classes they want to run in a day. RPM will accept cash and cheque only.
Race Day Fees are in addition to RPM Club Membership and Race License Fees.
This chart shows how Race Day Fees are calculated:
Practice Fees
Most race weekends will have a practice session on Saturday night, from 5 - 9pm. Cost is $40 for RPM members, $60 for non-members (plus $15 insurance fee which can be applied to the $30 PNWMA licence at a later date)
Discount
In order to encourage people to come early to help set up, and stay late to help clean up, we will be offering a $20 discount to the first 10 racers who sign up to help for either set-up or tear-down. This can be applied to your entry fees on that weekend or any upcoming round in 2010. Contact rpmsupermoto@hotmail.com to sign-up to help out.
Classes & Divisions
The RPM Supermoto Championship has race divisions and classes to suit every level of racer.
The decision to run certain race classes will be made on race day based on the number of registrants in each division.
RPM reserves the right to cancel race divisions as necessary and move racers into the next suitable class.
RPM may also reassign racers based on their skill level.
